The Christ the Redeemer Statue is a massive statue of Jesus Christ that sits atop Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. The impressive 39.6 metre (130 ft) tall statue is considered to be the largest Art Deco statue in the world and the 5th largest statue of Jesus Christ in the world. Standing tall as a symbol of Christianity in Brazil, the Christ the Redeemer statue has become a landmark and an iconic symbol for Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.  Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the Christ statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. On July 7, 2007,it was announced from Lisbon that Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado was deemed one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a list compiled by the Swiss-based The New Open World Corporation.
