The Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, or Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói — MAC in Portuguese is a major landmark and institution located in the city of Niterói in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The permanent collection are in the museum on a renewable loan from Joao Sattamini, a Brazilian private collector who has amassed one of the biggest private collections of contemporary art in the world. The Museum of Contemporary Art was completed in 1996 and was designed by world-renowned Brazilian architect, Oscar Neimeyer with the help of structural engineer Bruno Contarini. The 16 meter high building is recognized by its saucer-shaped cupola, which has a diameter of 50 metres and has three floors inside it. The viewing gallery in RIo’s Niterói Contemporary Art Museum looks out over Guanabara Bay and offers views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. The Museum of Contemporary Art projects itself over the 817 square metre (8,790 sq. ft) reflecting pool called Boa Viagem (or Bon Voyage), which surrounds the cylindrical base of the museum “like a flower,” according to Oscar Niemeyer.
