Like any other large metropolis, Rio de Janeiro has an abundance of restaurants to select from.

There are restaurants for all budgets from elegant and pricey to casual and cheap. Of course, being on the coast seafood is a specialty but the ethnic diversity of the city indicates Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, French, Greek and Brazilian cuisine too.

Finding the Best Food

Locals are quick to recommend restaurants along Dias Ferreira Street in Leblon. Sushi, Tapas, Italian, Thai and Asian restaurants are all located here. Some good choices are Carlota which defines itself as multicultural cuisine, Sawasdee offers splendid Thai cuisine, Zuka with a creative contemporary cuisine and Quadrucci contemporary Italian cuisine restaurant are extraordinary. For more casual dining try Ataulfo de Paiva Avenue for sandwiches and a cold beer. Santa Satisfação, Frontera e Balada Mix are good options in Ataulfo de Paiva Avenue.

Along the Beaches

Ipanema has several popular restaurants including Bazzar for comfort food, Alessandro and Frederico for a hearty breakfast and Via Sete for sipping drinks on a lovely veranda, Gula Gula the traditional restaurant very much appreciated by the locals, serves a mix of salads and hot dishes. The Sofitel hotel at Copacabana houses Le Pré Catalan which is considered one of the best restaurants in town. Right behind it in popularity is Olympe at Jardim Botanico.

There are so many restaurants in Rio de Janeiro it can be very difficult to decide where to eat. Perhaps the best course of action is to ask one of the locals where they eat and then take their advice.
